Among the many barriers to meaningful service and community engagement, most prominent is not knowing where to start. Between the multiple economic crises our most vulnerable populations are experiencing and the flurry of social posts and commentary shining a light on community problems, it can feel overwhelming when feeling the nudge to “just do something, anything.”

A good place to start is to get into the habit of asking: “What needs to be done?” and “What can I do?” Responding to both questions together and in the context of our community’s current issues is the art of spiritual engagement: connecting your faith story to the work of God out in the world.

Want to get up to speed on Greenville Together’s mission to end homelessness? Attend Wednesday’s Lunch & Learn on September 24 and join a conversation with members of the Housing Surge effort. Noon in the Media Center, bring your own lunch.

Is intentional prayer on behalf of our most vulnerable important to you? Email me (matt.rollins@firstbaptistgreenville.com) to learn more about the new Intercessory Prayer Team that is developing out of the prayer requests received through our Local Relief Ministry.

Do you wish you could engage more confidently with friends and family around sensitive topics and issues? Consider attending a new Wednesdays@First breakout series with me called “How to Have Difficult Conversations.”

Interested in talking more about connecting your faith journey to God’s work in the world? Visit our Volunteer Hub, then set up a time with me for a conversational assessment of ways for you to explore these and other faith and engagement questions.
