What to Expect

Worship is the heart of what we gather to do as a community of faith.

Trying a new church can feel overwhelming, but at First Baptist Greenville, you are welcomed just as you are. Our Sunday service brings together timeless traditions—hymns, scripture, and messages based on the Bible. With an Order of Worship to guide you, we invite you into a service that inspires faith and connection with God and others. Beyond our main Sunday service, our church is home to vibrant ministry areas for infants, children, youth, and adults, each designed to support growth, connection, and faith. Whether you’re seeking community for yourself or your family, we’d love to help you find the perfect group to connect!

Join us each Sunday morning at 10:30 a.m. for a worship experience in our beautiful Sanctuary, where adults can engage in inspiring music, thoughtful messages, and meaningful traditions. For our youngest members, we offer a special service in the Carpenter Chapel for four- and five-year-olds, creating a space just for them. Older children (grades 1–5) can pick up an activity bag in the Narthex to help them connect with the service in a meaningful way.

Frequently Asked Questions

FAQ

Where do I park?

There’s plenty of parking at First Baptist Greenville. If you are a first-time guest, we even have parking spots conveniently reserved for you at the base of the steeple. For easiest access, enter the church parking lot through the Cleveland Street entrance and make a right. The parking spaces are marked with the words “Welcome Visitors” and will be located on your right. A church representative will be standing outside at the top of the steps ready to greet you.

What about my Children?

On Sunday mornings we have options for children from birth through fifth grade. Visit the Welcome Center, located adjacent to the Sanctuary, for assistance regarding where to take your children.

There is a nursery for newborns and toddlers where our trained caregivers sing worship songs and play with your precious little ones.

4K through 5th grade children are invited to meet in their respective classrooms on the Children’s Ministry hall for Sunday school hour at 9:30. After Sunday school, they are picked up by their caregivers and go to the main service in the sanctuary at 10:30. 4K and 5K children join the congregation for the beginning of the service, and after the Children’s Sermon, they head to the Carpenter Chapel where they participate in age-appropriate worship. Following their worship time, they return to the 4K and 5K Sunday school room to worship through play for the remainder of the service.

1st through 5th grade children enjoy time in the sanctuary with adults for the entire worship service. Worship bags are available in the Narthex. Children are invited to fill their worship bags with items available at the worship bag shelf. They are free to select any items that would help them to best engage with the service. These can be picked up in the Narthex (the lobby directly adjacent to the Sanctuary) next to the wall near the men’s restroom.

There is a check-in system in each classroom to make dropping off your children safe and easy. Caregivers will register their child into our KidCheck program using one of the three check-in kiosks in the building. There is one in the Narthex, behind the Welcome Center, one on the main Children’s Ministry hall, and one on the nursery hall. Once registration is complete, two labels will be printed – a nametag for the child and a guardian receipt for the caregiver to show at pick up. Additionally, every staff member who works with children and youth goes through an intensive screening process called Protecting Our Children. This involves training, background and reference checks, and an interview. A full information booklet on our procedures can be found here.

I have older children. Where will they go?

6th through 12th grade students are part of our regular worship services on Sunday morning. They are welcome to check out our youth Bible study on Wednesday evenings from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. and Sunday evenings from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m.

Are there any accommodations for the hearing impaired?

Our Sanctuary is equipped with a Hearing Loop, compatible with any T-Coil equipped hearing aids. We also provide personal assisted listening devices for individuals in need. These devices are located in the Narthex, the lobby directly adjacent to the Sanctuary. Ask an individual at the Welcome Desk for assistance.

Is there a dress code?

We want you to feel comfortable. Whether that means jeans and a t-shirt or suit and tie, as long as you are actually wearing clothes, you are welcome at First Baptist Greenville. On Sunday mornings, many individuals wear business attire.

Will I have to speak up or be singled out in any way?

You won’t be put on the spot.
You won’t have to wear a name badge or be singled out in any way.
You do not have to sing along if you do not feel comfortable.
You are not expected to give when we receive the offering.
We have a welcome card available in the pew racks to fill out in case you have questions, need prayer, or are interested in any of our events or resources. This card is only used to help us serve you better and keep you informed of church events and activities. You will not be spammed. Additionally, you may complete this form to notify us of your arrival and to assist you with your visit to our church.
Guests are also invited to meet Dr. Jim Dant, our senior minister, after the worship service. Jim wants to meet you and will be delighted to speak with you in the Narthex directly after the worship service.

What do you believe?

We are a community of believers in God that worships Jesus Christ. We believe in the authority of the Bible, the equality of all people, unity in diversity, and that individuals everywhere can have a direct relationship with God.

Aside from Sunday services, what else do you have?

We want your spiritual growth to happen all week long, so we have multiple mid-week opportunities for you and your family.
Adults can connect with other individuals and families by joining a Sunday School class or small group. These smaller settings provide more room for friendships to help you grow in specific areas of your life like marriage, discipleship, finances, etc. We also have a library of online resources available.

Children, youth, and adults of all ages can participate in a myriad of programs on Wednesdays evenings like Midweek Fellowship, Mission Friends, Children on Mission, Youth Family Bible study, or choir rehearsal.
Churchwide mission projects lend aid and volunteer support to selected organizations in our community that are engaged in helping those in need.

Our Pastoral Care Teams offer pastoral, spiritual, and material support and provides opportunities for our members to actively minister to others.
