We are a Baptist church, but not the kind most people expect. Every person—whatever your background or identity—is welcome here. Not as an exception, but as part of who we are. We value the richness of tradition while also making room for questions, for diverse perspectives, for people who have been told they don’t belong. That commitment shows up in many ways—including the fact that women have been part of our ministerial staff for decades, with no stained-glass ceilings to hold them back.
Worship is where we slow down and find our footing again—where scripture, sacred music, and strong preaching invite the challenge of new understanding and open us to both reverence and joy. Enriched by a vibrant music ministry, our services carry the sound of children’s laughter and the call to seek justice beyond our walls.
From one season of life to the next, and across many interests, you’ll find places to follow your curiosity and share your gifts. Yet, the scale of our ministries and programs never diminishes the care—a meal left on the porch after surgery, celebrating when one of our youth is baptized, a conversation over coffee that becomes a lifeline. Over time, these moments weave us together in ways that are resilient and real.
In all facets of the life and ministry of our church, including but not limited to membership, baptism, ordination, marriage, teaching and committee/organizational leadership, First Baptist Greenville will not discriminate based on sexual orientation or gender identity.
We believe in the authority of the Bible, the equality of all members, unity in diversity, and the priesthood of all believers. In communion with and through the power of the Holy Spirit, we follow the Way of Jesus the Christ and share the Good News through worship, education, ministries, and missions. As an autonomous Baptist church, we value our heritage and the freedom it allows us to minister alongside other groups, both Christian and non-Christian. We express our love for all in gratitude for the love God has shown to us.
Invited into something that lasts, we are shaped by a calling: to love God with our whole selves, to love our neighbors without condition, and to live that love in ways that change us all.
We are delighted to share the revision of our Rules of Church Order, which reflects the thoughtful work of our dedicated Review Committee and the evolving needs of our vibrant congregation. This document serves as a helpful roadmap for our shared life together, outlining how we welcome new members, nurture our servant-leaders, and care for our beautiful sanctuary and remembrance garden. We invite you to explore these updates, which are designed to ensure our church remains a transparent, accountable, and warm home for everyone seeking to grow in faith and service.
