Father and son duo Dr. Charles Tompkins and Gregory Tompkins will present a recital of music for organ and violin (as well as selections for solo organ and solo violin) in our Sanctuary on Sunday, September 28, at 3:00pm. The program celebrates the completion of a recent project of renovating, restoring, upgrading and adding new components to the console of our Casavant organ, Opus 3583, installed in 1984. Music to be performed includes works by J.S. Bach, Heinrich Biber, John Stanley, César Franck, Cécile Chaminade, Florence Price and Naji Hakim.

In addition to serving as FBG’s Organist, Charles Tompkins is the Distinguished University Organist and Professor of Music Emeritus at Furman University and the Artist in Residence at Christ Church Episcopal. A graduate of the Eastman School of Music (University of Rochester) and the University of Michigan, Charles is recognized as one of America’s most outstanding concert organists, performing at prestigious venues in both the United States and abroad every year.

Gregory Tompkins is a versatile violinist who regularly performs in solo, chamber and orchestral settings throughout the United States. Gregory is a member of the New Haven Symphony Orchestra and the Cape Symphony Orchestra and serves as principal second violin for Orchestra New England. Gregory frequently appears in recital with his father, performing in venues including Trinity University in San Antonio, TX; Harvard Memorial Church in Cambridge, MA; and at the Piccolo Spoleto Festival in Charleston, SC. Gregory currently teaches on the faculty of Gateway Community College and at the Hopkins School in New Haven, CT.
