Some people are ‘last minute’ people. Maybe it is embedded in the genetics that shape their personality. Maybe it is simply a habit that has developed over time. It often appears to be a simple matter of practicality. For whatever reason, some people wait until the very last minute to make a decision, do a thing, or show up. That is not my nature, but you feel free to be you.
If you are a ‘last minute’ person with regard to registering for our church’s annual retreat, this is the last minute. For some of you, registration has fallen off the radar relative to the hundred other things you have to do in life. Some have been waiting to get a better sense of COVID-19’s influence on the event. Whatever the reason for waiting, the deadline for retreat registration is January 31. The last minute is here.
I want to encourage you and your family to attend this year. We need time together. The pandemic and its resulting social dynamic have created a lot of space between family, friends and church members. We need to see each other, talk to each other, laugh with each other, cry with each other, catch up with each other, and pray with each other. We need to hear the words of Philip Gulley as he teaches. His humor and insight will delight and inspire us. He will bring some much-needed wisdom and levity to these grueling days. We need to hear the music of Corbin + Tom. There is something extremely earthy and soothing about their mountain music sound. They mix an honest twang of the south with the lyric of John Prine, David Rawlings, Gillian Welch and some of our favorite hymnwriters. We need our children and youth to have some free and open space to play, laugh and continue to grow and develop in their faith and in their connection to the broader church family. We just all need a time of retreat.
It is the last minute. We have a few rooms still available. I hope you will make one of those rooms yours…and I’ll see you at retreat. Register here: https://firstbaptistgreenville.com/church-retreat-2022/
