After a prayerful and dedicated search, the Ministry Education and Formation Committee is excited to introduce our incoming Pastoral Resident, Taylor Long! Taylor will join our ministerial staff in August and be with our congregation for 2 to 3 years. The Pastoral Residency Program at FBG provides structured, in-depth, practical ministry experience to a recent seminary or divinity school graduate called to local church ministry. Residency provides experience in pastoral care, worship leadership, church administration, student ministry, and daily rhythms of church service you can’t learn in a seminary classroom.

Currently, Taylor works as the graduate research assistant for Campbell Divinity’s Empowering Families for Spiritual Formation initiative through the Lilly Endowment as she concludes her Master of Divinity studies at Campbell. Taylor feels called to be with people as they explore who they are and who God is calling them to be in wholehearted and curious ways.

Get to know Taylor in her own words:

“Hey, First Baptist Greenville! I am so excited to be joining y’all very soon as the pastoral resident. I am from Clayton, North Carolina which is a small town just outside of the capital city of Raleigh. I am pursuing my Master of Divinity with a concentration in Biblical Studies, and I am looking forward to graduating in May and joining y’all in August! When I am not studying, I love a good cup of coffee, spending time outside and reading—all of which I am excited to explore in Greenville.

When I began to think about what came next after school, I was excited to learn about the residency program at FBG. This opportunity and the ability to continue exploring and strengthening my calling and skills for ministry felt like the next faithful step in my journey. I am excited to join a congregation who is living out what it means to love God and neighbor wholeheartedly while also seeking to creatively move the church forward. On my visit to FBG, I felt welcomed and energized by the community and I am excited to be a part of it. I am looking forward to learning, growing and having fun together over the next few years as I continue to explore my vocational calling!”

Look for opportunities to get to know Taylor in August and beyond. Thank you for being a welcoming congregation dedicated to forming new ministers and supporting future leaders in the church!
