On Sunday, January 12, 2020, our morning worship service will include a dedication of the new Steinway concert grand piano for our Sanctuary. Dr. Robert Blocker, Dean of the Yale School of Music, will be here as guest artist for the dedicatory piano recital at 3:00pm in our Sanctuary. The recital is free and open to the public.
Our current piano was built in 1900 and was a beautiful instrument for many decades but needed to be replaced. The new Steinway concert grand piano is provided through a gift from Gordon and Sarah Herring. The dedication will read: Soli Deo Gloria—Glory to God alone; in memory of DuPre Rhame who was Minister of Music at First Baptist from the years 1936 to 1970 and the long time conductor of the Furman University Singers. The music in our January 12 service will be a variety of music to celebrate the gift of this new piano: Robert Blocker, Shelton Ridge Love and Kyle Matthews will be the pianists, in addition to the choral music from our talented Sanctuary Choir. Invite your families and guests from the community to hear the beautiful music on January 12! We are excited about this tremendous gift for our Music Ministry.
