Hopefully, you have heard about the Habitat for Humanity “Abraham Build” of which our church is a partner, along with Temple of Israel, Christ Church Episcopal, and the Greenville Muslim Community. We are honored to partner alongside these other Abrahamic faith communities in Greenville’s first interfaith build. The build will begin August 8 with an 8:00am Wall Raising at 502 Jenkins Street, 29601, and you are all invited to this special occasion to meet the future homeowners, the Patterson family! Geri and her four daughters, Jasmine, Brendasia, Genesis and Aviana (ages 11-18), have already contributed more than 200 hours of sweat equity through volunteering and taking classes to prepare for homeownership. Now they are excited to begin building their own home! You can read their story here: https://firstbaptistgreenville.com/geri/
How can you help? Sign up for one or more build shifts, especially shifts during the month of August! There are a total of 21 volunteer days from August 8 to early November, as well as six days our church is providing lunch. You may choose a morning or afternoon shift or both. There are a variety of tasks from building walls, shingling the roof, landscaping and providing lunch. Do you need construction experience? No!
As long as you are willing to learn a new skill, there will be trained leaders on site to guide you. The minimum age to volunteer on the build is 16, and any age is welcome to bring lunch. Each shift there will be volunteers from the various faith communities. Follow this link to volunteer and learn more: vhub.at/abrahambuildfirstbaptist
If you have questions, please feel free to contact Jack Dennis or Laura Stout.
Happy Building!
