As I reflect on my first six months as Minister of Music at First Baptist Greenville, there are many highlights, but one of my favorite parts has been working with and getting to know the students who sing in Vocare, our youth ensemble. Youth choir was a huge part of both my musical and spiritual growth as a teenager, and I believe strongly in the value it provides for students. Singing together is a way that we draw closer to God and each other. It is also a tangible way that youth can be involved in worship on a regular basis. I’d love to see more of our youth singing with us!

Youth Sunday will be held on March 1, when youth lead every part of the worship service. Now is a wonderful time for interested singers to join Vocare in preparation for Youth Sunday, as we will sing in worship during that service. I’ll also be reaching out to youth who play instruments to invite their participation.

Our next Vocare rehearsal is January 25 at 4:00pm in the Choir Room. Please encourage anyone you know who is in 6th–12th grade to give us a try. I’m happy to answer any questions and am interested in any thoughts parents and youth have on how to make Vocare a group that meets the needs of our students and our church. Please reach out to me by emailing Laura.Ritter@firstbaptistgreenville.com.

Blessings to everyone as 2026 is rolling right along!
