The Youth Family’s series of mission emphases began in the fall with a partnership between the Youth Ministry and Safe Harbor. Our youth were educated by a Safe Harbor representative before helping to collect requested supplies. Finally, we joined several Safe Harbor clients for a Christmas party. Now that a new year is here, we are beginning a new partnership with the Julie Valentine Center (JVC). The Julie Valentine Center is a private, non-profit organization that provides free, confidential services to victims of sexual assault and child abuse. They are one of 14 rape crisis centers in South Carolina. They also educate the community on how to identify, respond to, and prevent sexual violence and child abuse. Their mission statement and philosophy provide the framework for all of our services. JVC advocates for and supports survivors of sexual assault and child abuse. They ensure that survivors are respected, valued and heard. Some of their core values include trust, compassion, empowerment, accountability and inclusion. Over the next month, we will partner with the Julie Valentine Center to learn about the work they are doing as well as help meet the needs of their organization by organizing another collection. Stay tuned for more details as we begin this partnership.
