The Transition Committee is delighted to announce that Dr. Tony Hopkins has entered into covenant with First Baptist Greenville to be our Interim Senior Minister. Dr. Hopkins will begin his ministry with us on Sunday, November 6.

Dr. Hopkins was the Pastor at First Baptist Church, Greenwood, SC, from 2002-2022. Prior to that, he was the Pastor of First Baptist Church, Edgefield, SC, for ten years. He is a native of Knoxville, TN. He received his BA from Furman University, his Master of Divinity from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY, and his Doctor of Philosophy in New Testament Studies from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. He has held leadership positions in the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship, most recently serving as Chair of the CBF South Carolina Missions Committee.

Tony and his wife, Carol, have 2 children and 3 grandchildren. Their daughter, Michelle Moore, lives in Charleston, SC, where she is a speech therapist. Their son, Caleb, is Professor of Music at Bucknell University, Lewisburg, PA. Caleb was an intern with our Sanctuary Choir while a Furman student.

We will have a Welcome Reception for Tony and Carol on Sunday, November 6, from 8:30-10:00am in the Church Parlor.
