Even though I am not from Greenville, I grew up visiting often, and I distinctly remember my first and only trip across the Liberty Bridge. Looking down on the rushing Reedy River, I was terrified, but once I was across and looking back at its gentle slopes and strong wires, I thought the bridge was beautiful.

Here, at First Baptist, we have named our ministry to college students and young adults “The Bridge,” because it serves as a bridge between the Youth Family and more “grown-up” classes for spiritual formation. I always think of that journey over the Liberty Bridge—something overwhelming, awe-inspiring, and unforgettable all at once—and it makes me glad that we can offer community and support as our members navigate their own scary, beautiful, memorable moments in life.

If you are a college student at any of the other wonderful institutions of higher learning in our area, you are welcome at The Bridge. If you are a young adult—however you define that—and working, studying or living in and around Greenville, you are welcome at The Bridge. Come join us and see what we’re all about.

This Fall, we will gather on Sundays and Tuesdays. During the Sunday School hour, we encourage you to take part in Forum@First. On the Sundays when the Forum does not meet, we will gather in the AYMC to discuss scripture and current events. At least once a month, after Sunday Worship, we will go out for lunch together (carpooling encouraged!). On the first and third Tuesdays of each month, join us for social events around town. Watch out for announcements of other events, retreats and community gatherings.

For updates and more information, follow us on Instagram @firstbaptistbridge, like “First Baptist Bridge” on Facebook, or shoot me an email. If this sounds like the community for you, welcome to The Bridge!
