With Jim’s recent retirement announcement, per the rules of church order, the Deacon Officers have been busy organizing to ensure a smooth transition and search process. Over the past several weeks much progress has been made.

The initial focus was working with Personnel to organize and launch a Senior Minister Transition Committee. The committee will be responsible for developing and executing a transition plan to cover the interim vacancy of the Senior Minister position after Jim’s last Sunday on October 9 until a new Senior Minister is called. The decision was made that this will include the hiring of an external Interim Senior Minister who will not be eligible for the permanent position. The Transition Committee is composed of Co-chairs Freda Lark and Beverly Lambert along with Bob Cloaninger, Beatriz Dennis, Ann Golden and Duke McCall.

Additionally, the Senior Minister Search Committee was approved during this past Sunday’s Church Conference. The Search Committee will coordinate efforts within the congregation to identify qualities and capabilities of the next Senior Minister along with the identification of congregational goals and objectives and other materials that will be needed as part of the Senior Minister search process. This is expected to take up to four months. Upon completion, they will execute the search process until a Senior Minister is called. The average search process for a Senior Minister takes approximately 18-24 months to complete. The Search Committee will be composed of Doug Girvin (chair) along with Pat Booker Christy, Ralph Bouton, Pam Davis, Deb Richardson-Moore, Leslie Rodwell and Kevin Treu.

We appreciate your prayers for wisdom and discernment for each member of these committees as they carry out this important mission. Please feel free to contact any member of these committees or the deacon officers with any questions or input.
