The days ahead are filled with music. As I shared with you on Sunday, I will be in New York City during the early days of this week. My primary mission is to represent our church at the Tribeca Film Festival during the premiere screening of Gay Chorus, Deep South. This documentary follows the San Francisco Gay Men’s Chorus on their Lavender Pen Tour through the southern United States. The climax of the film is the grace found at First Baptist Church, Greenville, South Carolina. I will be at the film premiere, but…when in New York… On Tuesday evening – before returning on Wednesday – I’ll be attending Die Walküre at the New York Metropolitan Opera. The Wagner Ring Cycle is on my bucket list. At least I’ll get to see and hear a portion of it this week. Beautiful music…
I’ll be back Wednesday, May 1, but I do not want to miss our MidWeek Fellowship of Music and Mission. Each year, at the end of the Spring Semester, our children present a program of music and mission inspiration. I hope you will be in attendance this Wednesday to hear all of our children’s choirs sing and listen to our children’s mission groups share what they have learned about and prayed for during recent months. When the children’s choirs sing, they never disappoint! Beautiful music…
Finally, next Sunday afternoon at 5:00pm, Springfield Baptist Church will join us in our Sanctuary for a festival of music. Choirs – adult, youth and children – from both churches will perform. A reception in the Fellowship Hall will follow the program. Each year our churches take time to ‘be together.’ In the past, this gathering has taken the form of worship, meals, a march and an outdoor BBQ. This year, it is an afternoon of music. Beautiful music…
I can’t take you with me to New York, but I do look forward to sharing these other musical moments with you this week. Put these events on your calendar and come enjoy some beautiful music…
