Working here in our Music Ministry is a tremendous blessing in my life. When I initially came to First Baptist Greenville some years ago, I was struck by the people in the Sanctuary Choir. This is an unusual group of people from different ages, different backgrounds and occupations who come together each week to prepare music for our worship services, including important liturgical days like Easter and Christmas. Singing together in a room with a group of people is an amazing experience. The gift of music in our lives gives us meaning, lifts our spirits, and connects us to each other. I am writing this article on a Sunday afternoon, after the moving experience of our congregation and choir singing the hymn “Abide with Me” with our wonderful organist, Charles Tompkins, in our service earlier today.
On Sunday morning, April 21, the theme of our worship service is Music for the Soul. I hope you will come in person to hear beautiful music from our Sanctuary Choir and sing together as part of our faith community. There will be a variety of music, including a modern setting of Psalm 13, the beautiful Brahms setting of Psalm 84, the Holst Psalm 148, and beloved songs of hope and thanksgiving. Set aside this time for your soul to be filled with grace and peace.
