[fusion_text]Before I tell you about our trip, I must make a few confessions. As a full-time school teacher, I have the greatest job in the world; however, I must confess that I look forward to my summer vacation. When I scheduled the Youth Choir to participate in the Jubilate Festival, I did not realize that the tour would take place during my first six days of summer vacation…
As the time drew near, I began to question that decision… I would be spending the first week of my summer vacation on a bus with 13 teenagers…really?! My final confession…I could not have had more fun doing anything else!
This past January, the Youth Choir went to Atlanta, Georgia, for the first part of our Jubilate Festival experience. Our singers spent 12 hours rehearsing with youth choirs from 5 other churches from Georgia, Kentucky and South Carolina. On Sunday, they sang in a service at First Baptist Church Avondale Estates. Our singers were polite, focused and positive contributing members of the choir.
On Saturday, June 6, we reunited with our Jubilate Festival friends. During our six days together we went from Dalton, Georgia, to Nashville and Knoxville, Tennessee, and Louisville, Kentucky. We gave six concerts (bringing joy and enhancing worship), went whitewater rafting, took a tour of Churchill Downs, and enjoyed great fellowship with the other singers. None of this would have been possible without Ellen Wilson, our fearless chaperone who kept us laughing while taking great care of everyone – the world’s greatest chaperone!
I cannot begin to tell you how proud I was of our Youth Choir. What a wonderful way to spend the first week of my summer vacation. Thank you for the opportunity!
