Jennifer Murphy, a member of the Missions and Affiliations Committee, currently serves on the board at YouthBASE (https://youthbase.org/), an afterschool and summer program that serves elementary school students living in poverty in Greenville County. They have excellent programming for the kiddos including a research-based reading program to help kids who are behind on reading get caught up. YouthBASE received a grant through our Faith Fund last year, and we are proud to call them a partner organization in the community.
FBG used to do Inasmuch as one big day of service at many different organizations one time a year. Now, we have several different Inasmuch events each year that meet the needs of nonprofits in our community. Following the success of last year’s Inasmuch Day with YouthBASE, Jennifer volunteered to take the lead on it this year. On May 16, Jennifer and her daughter, Ainsley, led around ten First Baptist volunteers who provided and served a meal for children and their families during YouthBASE’s family night. They served and helped clean up, got to know the kids and families, and in doing so modeled perfectly what lay-led ministry is all about!
“Thank you to the Link, Koinonia, and Gayle Price classes! This Inasmuch event was a hit! About 45 to 50 people enjoyed dinner, an awards ceremony, and a fun craft for the kids. Thanks to three fabulous classes for your support!”
