The good news is that advances in medicine are making it possible for more people with injuries or illnesses to do much more convalescing at home. The bad news? Responsibility of care has shifted to family members and friends who are not trained caregivers and are not always prepared for the physical and emotional demands. Once things get busy, they often drop out of sight and get even less of the help we would like to give!

On Thursday, April 10, all caregivers are invited to the Terrace Level of the AYMC for multi-sensory expressions of love and support: chair messages, relaxing stretch-and-breathe exercises, art and games, the affection of therapy dogs, a meditative labyrinth walk, expert caregivers to share with and learn from, and a delicious meal. We call it our Caregiver Respite Luncheon, and we need YOUR help building our guest list!

Please share the names of anyone you know who has slipped into the caregiving role and needs a break.

Call the church office 864-233-2527 or send them here: kyle.matthews@firstbaptistgreenville.com. We’ll do the inviting!

This year, in addition to Min-Ken Liao leading chair yoga sessions, we have added some special features: veteran caregiver Dr. Jim Alexander will meet privately with anyone who needs tips on caring for someone with dementia, and Bruce Meyer of Always Best Care will answer questions about your local options for support, what costs insurance and Medicare will cover, and other questions about in-home care.
