Holy Week 2018

Images of Grace

Our Lenten theme this year is Images of Grace. We have seen images of grace in each of our scripture lessons as we have traveled through Lent. During Holy Week, we continue our journey to Easter through worship spaces at First Baptist Greenville. Over the course of the week, we will worship in the Sanctuary, Fellowship Hall, Parlor, Chapel and Remembrance Garden. Join us as we journey together.

Palm-Passion Sunday

March 25, 10:30am, in the Sanctuary

The Palm-Passion Sunday service begins with children singing hosannas as they process into the Sanctuary with palms. The celebration continues with scripture and meditation before moving into a time of remembering the Passion of Christ. The Sanctuary Choir accompanied by a chamber ensemble will share selections from John Rutter’s Requiem interspersed with scripture and meditation by Jim Dant, Senior Minister.

Wednesdays at First

MidWeek Fellowship
March 28, 6:15pm in the Fellowship Hall

Wednesday evening, we will gather as family around tables in the Fellowship Hall to share a meal (4:45-6:00pm) and Bible study. Children and Youth will also have their normal Wednesdays at First activities of missions and choirs or Bible study and fellowship.

Maundy Thursday

March 29, 7:00pm, in the Parlor

Thursday evening, we will gather in the “upper room,” our church parlor, where the table will be set for us. We will sing songs, read scripture, listen to beautiful music from the Sanctuary Choir and Ensemble, and celebrate communion.

Good Friday

March 30, 7:00pm, in the Chapel

For our Good Friday service this year, we will meet in the Chapel for a meditative service of passion readings and Taize chants, along with time to venerate the cross and have personal meditation. We depart this service in silence.

Early Easter Morning

April 1, 8:30am, in the Remembrance Garden

After a silent Holy Saturday, we will gather in the Remembrance Garden to celebrate the resurrection. Flowers are placed on the cross to signify new life from the grave. Matt Rollins, Minister of Spiritual Formation and Outreach, will share the message, and an ensemble from the Bell Tower Ringers will provide joyful music.

April 1, 10:30am, in the Sanctuary

Easter morning at 10:30, we return to the Sanctuary to celebrate the wonderful news: Christ is arisen! Jim Dant, Senior Minister will preach, and the Sanctuary Choir will be accompanied by a brass quintet.
