Where does the time go?! Can you believe it has been 10 years since our Mission Backpack ministry started? Thanks to the dedicated leadership of Stephanie Wright and the countless donations and volunteer hours from this congregation, we have served students for 10 school years! We began by providing weekend food bags for 25 children in one elementary school and are currently providing bags for 95 students in 3 schools. To imagine the impact, consider that over the course of 10 years, we will have purchased and packed a conservative estimate of 13,300 cans of pasta!
As we thank Stephanie for her incredible leadership the past 10 years, we welcome our new coordinators, Amanda Paton-Znak and Susan Shelley, and we welcome YOU to get involved! Here is a note from Amanda and Susan:
Stephanie has left some awfully big shoes to fill, but we are delighted to have the opportunity to serve our community in this way! Under Stephanie’s guidance, Mission Backpack has succeeded in providing meals to these deserving students in great part because of the dedication of an amazing team of volunteers. As we look toward the upcoming school year, we are so thankful to the past, current and new volunteers who have graciously offered their time, but we continue to have some holes that we need to fill. There are several ways you can help! Beginning in mid-August, we will need people to shop for the food items that go in the bags, pack items into individual bags for each student, and deliver the bags to the designated school. The typical commitment is once per month. Please reach out to one of us, and we will be happy to help you find your place!
