First Baptist Greenville has a long history of supporting our neighbors in need by collecting canned fruit for the United Ministries Food Pantry. We have a wonderful team of volunteers who gather fruit donations each month and deliver them to United Ministries on behalf of our congregation.
This September, we will celebrate Pastor Jim Dant’s birthday as we have done in past years by collecting fruit throughout the month as our September Missions Focus. This year is bigger than ever, as Pastor Jim will celebrate his 60th Birthday on September 22!
In celebration of 60 years, please consider making fruit donations in multiples of 6: 6 cans, 12 cans, 24 cans… or you could even donate 60 cans or 600 cans! The more canned fruit the better!
We’ll have a Big Fruit Collection Blitz on Wednesday, September 22 (Jim’s Birthday!) during MidWeek Fellowship. Bring your canned fruit that evening when you come to church.
Please also feel free to bring canned fruit donations any time during the month to our drop-off locations on campus: Front Desk, Fellowship Hall Lobby, or AYMC Lobby.
The Food Pantry is just one of the crisis assistance programs offered by United Ministries working to “provide hopeful options, strong encouragement and a measure of stability to people finding themselves facing financial uncertainty.” In 2020, United Ministries provided food to nearly 1,000 families in need. The Food Pantry uses a client-choice model, allowing families to choose the food items that fit their family’s needs. For more information about the impact this organization is making in our community, visit united-ministries.org/crisis-assistance.
Thank you for your continued generosity in providing canned fruit for the United Ministries food pantry! For more information or if you have a question, please email me at clayHgilbert@gmail.com.
