In late March a group of FBG deacons joined long-time members John and Mary Braeunig at Project Host to prepare and serve lunch for Greenville’s homeless community. We sliced onions and potatoes and mixed up a great breakfast casserole all while being distanced and masked. Over 75 men and women were served a bagged lunch to take away because the dining room is still closed. They also had a chance to reconnect with old friends. John, Mary and Tony McDade know many of the community served by Project Host and enjoyed catching up after a year away.
In addition to celebrating a return to service, the deacons participated in the ribbon cutting for a new commercial dishwasher donated by FBG. Project Host purchased the dishwasher with grant funds from the Missions and Affiliations Committee. This grant was funded by annual distributions from the FBG Foundation.
Many of our small groups will be serving at Project Host during the remainder of the year. It was a great morning of serving our community with our fellow deacons. If you have the opportunity, consider spending a Sunday morning enjoying community!
