My children have grown accustomed to the answer. Each year, they ask me what I want for my birthday. The answer? ‘I have everything I need. I have everything I want. I do not need more stuff. A little time with you, however, would be great: in person, a telephone call, a text, Facetime, Skype, Zoom or a card.’
My birthday is September 22. It’s true, I have just about everything I need or want, but a little time with you—my church family—would be great. Here’s a way you can gift me and gift those who do not have all they want or need. Again, this year I am requesting you make donations of canned fruit to United Ministries. In order to get ‘my gift’ of seeing you, I’m asking you to drop your fruit off at the church on Sunday, September 20, from 1:00pm until 4:00pm under the breezeway between the Fellowship Hall and Rotunda entrance. Volunteers will be there to receive your fruit, and I will be there to say ‘hello’ and receive a ‘happy birthday smile’ from you.
Your gift of fruit to United Ministries on my birthday has been an annual gold mine for their food pantry. The fruit they receive from this venture is a stockpile that lasts more than just a week or two, so please—not really for me, but for those who need it—drop as many cans of fruit as possible by the church on September 20. Seeing your smiling face will be a great gift to me!
