Sundays December 1, 8, 15, 22; 9:15-10:15am; Fellowship Hall
Each Advent, the Spiritual Formation Committee hosts an Advent Sunday School series in the Fellowship Hall for any interested adult. All classes, individuals and visitors are welcome to attend! The 2024 theme is, “Who Is My Neighbor?” and will explore ways the church and individuals can answer the call to be a more generous and connected community. Hands Producing Hope, a handcrafted goods collective, will host a pop-up shop on December 8, 15 and 22 for attendees to practice loving our neighbors through conscious Christmas shopping. Each purchase of a handmade piece from artisans around the world supports artisan training and literacy programs, maternal health initiatives and uses sustainable, local materials. Come learn and shop all at once!
December 1: “My Neighbor’s Voice” with Victoria Chance
Kick off the series with an interactive morning talking with friends around the table. My Neighbor’s Voice is a nonprofit that helps groups have conversations to address the hurt, fear and alienation in our communities by creating a hospitable space for folks to listen to themselves and others share their stories about civic concerns. Founded in Greenville, their approach is growing and spreading across the country!
December 8: “The Coffee Club” with Nick Bush
Hear from Nick Bush, the director of United Ministries’ Place of Hope, on how he and a group of direct service providers meet to care for Greenville’s unhoused community members.
December 15: “All About Nicholtown” with Yvonne Reeder
What are the biggest challenges facing our neighbors in Nicholtown? Hear from Yvonne Reeder, the coordinator for the Nicholtown Neighborhood Association, on issues affecting our next-door neighbors.
December 22: “Just Matt” with Matt Rollins
Matt will adapt and lead a session from JustFaith’s Advent series, “Disrupting the Darkness,” a series designed to help us discern how Jesus’ birth calls us to live, love and act.
