I’m not sure how I missed it in my first fifty-five years of life. I had heard about it. I knew people that were familiar with it. But somehow, as time crept past, it never became part of my life. It was not until this year that I saw the movie – and subsequently the stage presentation of – The King and I. And of course, it was the first time I heard the song Getting to Know You in its original context…

Getting to know you.
Know all about you.
Getting to like you.
Getting to hope you like me.

You may have missed it the last two years. You know other people who have attended. You’ve heard how much fun and how inspiring it is. Somehow time has crept by and it’s never been part of your calendar. I hope 2018 will be the year you decide to attend our Annual Churchwide Retreat. Our congregation will once again gather at YMCA Blue Ridge Assembly in picturesque Black Mountain, North Carolina during the first weekend of March (March 2-4, 2018). Our theme this year is ‘Unmasking God.’ We will be studying the stories of Genesis 1-11 under the leadership of Rev. Joy Yee, pastor, Nineteenth Avenue Baptist Church. As usual, there will be an abundance of wonderful free-time activities for your rest and recreation. We will enjoy another Saturday evening party (I’ve heard it’s a costume party with live band this year!) and a newly added ‘musical jams around the campfire.’ This is a weekend of (in the words of a famous musical) “…getting to know you.” It is a time we get to know God and one another better.

I want to encourage you to register for retreat today! Simply click on this link https://firstbaptistgreenville.com/churchwide-retreat/ and reserve a space for your family. If you’ve gone before, you know you don’t want to miss it. If you’ve never been, don’t miss it again. See you there.
