Rustlings (April 3, 2017)

I asked a favor of you and you responded beautifully. Thank you. Thank you for attending the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship of South Carolina (CBFSC) assembly this past weekend. Many were not able to attend, but many others comfortably filled our Sanctuary, were inspired by rich worship and shared genuine hospitality with many guests. Your commitment to a Friday evening worship service did not deter your presence Sunday morning! To the instrumentalists, choir, vocalists and director that graced the platform, thank you. For all who filled the pews and received the gift of Mendelssohn’s Elijah, thank you. You have all been kind in granting my requests in recent days. In return, I’d like to do a favor for you…

On the Monday after Easter, members of First Baptist Greenville (FBG) and Nineteenth Avenue Baptist Church (NABC) in San Francisco will be traveling to Israel for spiritual pilgrimage. Before our departure, names will be included in The Branch so that you might remember us in your prayers. We, however, would like to do something for you. On our last day in Jerusalem, we will be visiting the western wall of the old Temple – the Wailing Wall. People of faith slip written prayers into the cracks of the wall daily. If you have a prayer you would like taken to the wall, we would like to carry them for you. It will be a way for our church family to be on pilgrimage with us and give you a direct connection to our travels and prayers. Please write your prayers on small slips of paper and deliver them to me or the church office by Easter Sunday.

Care for each other is essential to any community of faith. Thank you for caring for me… and allowing me to care for you.
