November 8 was National Signing Day, and the AYMC was privileged to host Madisen Smith as she signed to play basketball with West Virginia University. Madisen began playing basketball at age nine and quickly found herself on Greenville High School’s varsity team in the seventh grade. She has been their starting point guard since eighth grade. She’s trained and played year round on traveling teams with some of her time spent at the AYMC.

Smith was a Class AAAA all-state selection each of the past two years for the Red Raiders. As a junior, she averaged 17 points, 6.4 assists, 4.0 rebounds and 3.0 steals and led Greenville to a 24-4 record, the Region 1 championship and the Upper State final.

As an A-B student, she had offers from South Carolina, North Carolina State,
Louisville, Wake Forest, East Carolina and Dayton. Once she visited West Virginia,
though, it felt like home, and these days you can hear her singing “Almost Heaven…”
I am grateful that Madisen spent time at the AYMC and enjoyed it enough that it
was the place she wanted to have her official signing. We wish her much luck as she
continues her basketball career and look forward to watching her on TV and maybe
even in person.
